History of the foundation.

Growing up in the 1960’s, Chicago native Darryl Stingley spent countless hours at local youth facilities designed to offer positive reinforcement activities for underprivileged, inner-city youth. As a result of his involvement with these programs, he excelled in every facet in life. An honor student and a standout running back for John Marshall High School, Darryl was noted for his hard work in the classroom and on the field. Attending Purdue University on a football scholarship after high school, Darryl Stingley went on to become a first round draft pick of the New England Patriots in 1973. Stingley attributed his accomplishments to his involvement in the positive youth programs in which he participated on the West Side of Chicago. Determined to pay homage to the community that made him the man he was, Darryl made this his mission in life. “Reaching Out to Empower Our Youth” is a concept that came to fruition in 1993 when The Darryl Stingley Youth Foundation was founded.

Through DSYF partnerships with local schools and foundation programs, youth were taught social etiquette, self respect, confidence building and self esteem. DSYF also provided after school tutoring, speech clinics and motivational speakers for youth.
